One of Ponce Inlet’s most legendary & well renowned charters, Waterproof Charters Fishing Captained by Tim Garrett, is also one of the original charter boat businesses in the area. With over 40 years of experience in both charter fishing as well as commercial fishing, Captain Tim has an incredibly long and seasoned history fishing the Ponce Inlet area. As with most of the long standing charter businesses in Ponce Inlet, this is a family run business that prides itself on the happiness of each and every one of the anglers that step aboard their vessel.

The Waterproof, a 40 foot custom built Number One boat, specifically designed for bottom fishing & trolling, is powered by a 650 horsepower inboard John Deere engine. Featuring a large cockpit and cabin, the vessel has a restroom, fly bridge for sightseeing and fighting chairs for the most epic of fish fights. Their docking was handpicked, being less than a mile from Ponce De Leon Inlet, ensuring that you have more time to fish & less time traveling.

Originally from Ohio, Captain Tim fell in love with the area as a child when he was vacationing in Daytona Beach with family. The Garrett’s family tradition of offshore fishing the areas then charters sealed Captain Tim’s heart in what he wanted his career and future to hold. Relocating here after, he initially worked as a mate and commercially fished in the winters. In 1986 he had The Waterproof custom built & has been blessed year after year with highlight reels that are sure to make just about anyone’s jaw drop! While he is well known for his offshore fishing, he most enjoys wiggling a crappie jig through the lily pads in his free time.

Lucky Strike Sportfishing

Our next Boat of the Month Winner, Lucky Strike Sportfishing Charters, has been an area favorite for a long time and their reputation surely precedes them. One of Ponce Inlet’s longest running sport fishing charters, the Lucky Strike has been racking in the fish for well over 15 years- and its Captain has been doing so for a whole lot longer. One of their qualifying catches last month (featured below) , a 63.7 pound Mahi-Mahi, is just one of the many stunning catches that make up the highlight reels of Captain Damien’s sport fishing memories.

The Lucky Strike is a 38 foot Henriques Express Sport fisherman powered by twin 500 HP Yanmar diesel engines giving you a cruising speed of 22 knots, ensuring that you have plenty of time to fish. Loaded with all the perks from her outriggers down to her bait wells and electronics, she’s sure to give you the experience of a lifetime no matter what kind of fish you are targeting.

Captain Damien Lawler has over 25 years of experience in charter fishing, and has been at the helm of the Lucky Strike for almost 20 years. A United States Coast Guard licensed Captain, New Smyrna Beach local, and King Of the Inlet winner; he has a definite pride in his fishing and cherishes everyday he gets to spend on the water making dreams come true. After recently battling lung cancer and beating the odds he said that all of his catches mean a little bit more to him these days.

While his favorite fishing is blue water trolling for billfish and pelagic’s, he’s always ready to bottom fish and has boxed countless mount worthy grouper for his clients over the years. Despite landing an absolute stud Mahi this month, Captain Damien stays humble and insists the great catch of his life is being able to wake up and spend another day out on the water.
